A Familiar Face

All these damn people

Acting like they know me

I’m so sorry that I’m

Such a disappointment

What did I do to deserve your hate

You’re the one that thought you saw a familiar face

You might have known a girl

From ten or so years ago

I’m so sorry that you

Thought I wouldn’t grow

What did I do to make you look that way

You’re the one that thought you saw a familiar face

You know I’m almost flattered

I didn’t think it mattered

What I became

If I stayed the same

Or if I changed

Everything

You know I’m no actor

I’m only a familiar face

For good or for bad

Everyone thinks they know me

But I can count on one hand

How many I’ve told my story

For better or worse

Everyone wants some of this girl

You recognize me?

Is that a joke?

What did I do to deserve your attention

I don’t want to play

Feel free to forget my face

Oh, I should be flattered

I didn’t think it mattered

What I became

If I stayed the same

Or if I changed

Everything

Who cares if what I had first

Is only a familiar face

I don’t stand out, no

I’m just someone everyone knows

I feel myself fade into shadows

My past is mine to erase

But I can’t stand it when they say

You have such a familiar face

My head aches

I’m Plain Jane

And everybody knows me (this face)

From somewhere

But no one knows all my names

I’m just one more in the sea

Losing my identity

Until I’m no more than a memory (a familiar face)

From somewhere

No more than a fading…
